The Lottery
In a small town, the people gather for an annual lottery. The lottery is a tradition that has been going on for as long as anyone can remember. The people believe that the lottery is a way to ensure a good harvest.
On the day of the lottery, the townspeople gather in the town square. The children are excited about the lottery, and they run around playing games. The adults are more serious, and they talk quietly among themselves.
The lottery is overseen by Mr. Summers, who is a respected member of the community. Mr. Summers calls out the names of the people who have been chosen to draw slips of paper from the black box.
As the lottery progresses, the tension in the town square grows. The people are afraid of being chosen, and they start to whisper about who they think will be the winner.
Finally, the last slip of paper is drawn. The winner is a woman named Tessie Hutchinson. Tessie is shocked and horrified to be the winner. She begs the townspeople to spare her, but they refuse.
Tessie is stoned to death by the townspeople. The townspeople are relieved that the lottery is over, and they go back to their homes.
The Lottery is a story about the dangers of blindly following tradition. The townspeople in the story are so used to the lottery that they don't question it. They even believe that the lottery is necessary for a good harvest.
The Lottery is a reminder that we should always question tradition, and that we should never blindly follow anything.
